Born and raised in the UK, I’ve always dreamt of a life beyond its shores. After years of planning,
delays, and second-guessing, I finally committed to a one-way move to Canada. This is the start of my
fresh chapter, and I’m documenting it all here.
The dream that kept coming back
Hi, I'm Ryan. Born and raised in the UK, I've always dreamt of a life beyond its shores.
Since 2018, my family and I have been talking about moving to Canada or New Zealand.
Canada won our hearts. In 2019, my mum, stepdad, brother, and I made our first trip over,
house hunting. We found the perfect place just outside Edmonton, half an acre of land with
plenty of room for our family.
Delays, reality checks, and the turning point
We planned to move in 2020, but then Covid hit, throwing a massive spanner in the works.
On top of that, I found myself in a beautiful relationship that, though now ended, delayed our plans further.
Financial issues added to the mix, making the move seem like a distant dream.
One-way ticket, new chapter
But now, things have changed. I've secured a well-paying job that helped me clear my debts, and being single again
has freed me from the one thing holding me back: love. For nearly two years, my brother and mother have been living
their dreams in Canada, developing and growing along the way. Now it's my turn.
Recently, I handed in my resignation and told my boss, "I've booked the ticket. September 10th, 2024, I'll be hopping
on that one-way flight." With just over 100 days to go, the countdown has begun.
I'm making this move because I crave a new life. I'm tired of the pressure and speed of the UK, the direction the country
is heading, and the loss of the values I grew up with. Canada, with its open skies, cold weather, vast landscapes, and
ever-changing scenes, promises the fresh start I've been yearning for.

UPDATE
I am now going to be flying on the 30th August 2024, 10 days earlier than planned as I have been given a job offer I cant refuse,
only requirement.. come out earlier.
