Climbing to Comfort: Our 3-Star Adventure at the Rembrandt Square City Center Hotel
Our adventure in Amsterdam began bright and early – too early, if you ask me. We landed at 8 AM, just in time to watch the city slowly wake up, but a bit too soon to actually join in on the fun. With nothing open yet, we found ourselves lounging in a nearby park, waiting for the city to catch up with our excitement.
Enter Kadir, our off-site host and an absolute legend. He assured us we could either check in early or stash our bags at the hotel from 10 AM. So, off we went to drop off our bags and explore the city – after all, this was my first time using Airbnb, and I was a bit skeptical. But let me tell you, this place exceeded my expectations.
The hotel is nestled on the second floor of a charming building right in the heart of Amsterdam. Now, if you think climbing Everest is tough, you haven’t met these stairs. Every step felt like scaling a vertical incline, and by the time we reached our room, we were gasping for air like we’d just summited a mountain. But hey, what’s a little cardio when you’re in Amsterdam?
Once inside, we found everything we needed for a comfortable stay – a shower, toilet, plenty of towels, a sink station, TV, and enough beds to fit all of us. The beds were all singles, but surprisingly spacious and comfy. The only hiccup? Those winter blankets were a bit much for the summer heat. Thankfully, we had AC – well, sort of. The AC was on a timer, so one of us had to keep getting up to reset it, as there was no remote. It was like playing musical chairs, but with air conditioning. But aside from that, the room was nicely decorated, and the keycards were a godsend, especially after a night out when coordination wasn’t exactly our strong suit.
The quiet hours were from 10 PM to 9 AM, which was a bit of a challenge for our late-night escapades, but we managed to keep it down (at least, no one complained!). Plus, the location couldn’t have been better. Restaurants right downstairs, pubs on every corner, and a supermarket across the street – everything we needed was just a stone’s throw away. And the best part? We were only a few minutes from the Red Light District, making it easy to dive into Amsterdam’s nightlife.
All this came at a pretty reasonable price too – £520 for the whole crew, so around £100 each. Not bad at all for a spot practically in the center of Amsterdam. Sure, there were a few quirks, like the stairway workout and the AC timer, but overall, I’d definitely recommend this place. Just be prepared to climb those stairs – it’s worth it for the location alone!
