Hi, I'm Ryan. Born and raised in the UK, I've always dreamt of a life beyond its shores. Since 2018, my family and I have been talking about moving to Canada or New Zealand. Canada won our hearts. In 2019, my mum, stepdad, brother, and I made our first trip over, house hunting. We found the perfect place just outside Edmonton—1/2 acre of land with plenty of room for our family.
We planned to move in 2020, but then Covid hit, throwing a massive spanner in the works. On top of that, I found myself in a beautiful relationship that, though now ended, delayed our plans further. Financial issues added to the mix, making the move seem like a distant dream.
But now, things have changed. I've secured a well-paying job that helped me clear my debts, and being single again has freed me from the one thing holding me back: love. For nearly two years, my brother and mother have been living their dreams in Canada, developing and growing along the way. Now it's my turn.
Recently, I handed in my resignation and told my boss, "I've booked the ticket. September 10th, 2024, I'll be hopping on that one-way flight." With just over 100 days to go, the countdown has begun.
I'm making this move because I crave a new life. I'm tired of the pressure and speed of the UK, the direction the country is heading, and the loss of the values I grew up with. Canada, with its open skies, cold weather, vast landscapes, and ever-changing scenes, promises the fresh start I've been yearning for.
Join me on this blog as I document my adventure of leaving behind the old and embracing the new. Welcome to "Crossing the Pond: A Brit’s New Life in Canada"—a tale of fresh starts, endless skies, and the pursuit of dreams across the pond.
**UPDATE**
I am now going to be flying on the 30th August 2024, 10 days earlier than planned as I have been given a job offer I cant refuse, only requirement.. Come out earlier..
