A Day in Canterbury Cathedral: Time Travel with Talli
14/04/2024
Canterbury, Kent
We kicked off our day at this historical masterpiece after snagging tickets for £17 each, which—brace yourselves—last for an entire year! (Talk about a bargain, though, regrettably, we aren't local students who get in for even less. Oh, the woes of the non-local!)
Stepping inside, the cathedral was nothing short of breathtaking. The stained glass wasn’t just stained glass—it was like the kaleidoscope of the heavens. And let’s talk scale: the vastness of the space and the soaring ceilings had us feeling like tiny characters in some epic historical saga. At one point, the sounds of the organ filled the cathedral, its notes ricocheting majestically off the ancient stone, and I swear, even the air seemed to shimmer with sound.
But wait, there's more! We ventured into the depths to explore the crypts below, where each shadow and cool, damp corner offered a thousand stories. It was like stepping back in time, and every whisper of the place seemed imbued with sacredness. And here’s a little cherry on top: there’s an actual private school on the grounds! Imagine studying history where it literally surrounds you. Mind. Blown.
Talli, with her boundless zest for historical tidbits, was absolutely in her element. Watching her light up at every plaque and artifact, you’d think she’d won the historical lottery. As for me? I dont know my history too well but boy was I thrilled to be part of this journey through time.
Why should you, dear future tourist, consider visiting Canterbury Cathedral? It's simple: it's not just a trip to a stunning building; it's an immersive plunge into the pages of history. Whether you're a history buff like Talli or just someone who appreciates a good old-fashioned awe-inspiring sight, this cathedral has something to stir your soul.
So grab your tickets, prepare for a sonorous serenade from the resident organist, and dive deep into the crypts of Canterbury. Who knows? Maybe you’ll feel the echoes of history calling your name too. Just remember, if you're not a local student, bring an extra quid or two—it’s worth every penny.
