Christmas in Brussels: A Festive Journey Through the Heart of Belgium.
02/12/2022
Buckle up, folks, because our adventure in Brussels was one for the books! Picture this: a
long five-hour drive in my trusty BMW 1 series, a 2-liter diesel beast that got us there
smoother than a fresh jar of Nutella. As we rolled into the city, we were ready to hit the ground running.
After settling into our hotel and throwing back a quick chill session (because let's be real,
road trips are exhausting), we hit the streets, ready to be dazzled by Brussels' famous Christmas
markets. But hold up, where were they? Turns out, they were on a break, probably still recovering
from their Covid-19 phase. No worries, though – we didn't let that dampen our spirits. Instead,
we grabbed some scooters and zipped around the city like the cool cats we are.
Our first stop? The famous Illusions Museum. Picture four grown adults giggling like kids on
Christmas morning as we got lost in a world of mind-bending illusions. Hours flew by as we
laughed, puzzled, and probably embarrassed ourselves more than once – totally worth it!
Now, here's where the real fun begins: O'Reilly's, an Irish bar tucked away in the heart of
Brussels. We snagged a spot under the stairs and settled in for a proper session. Grace, was loving the
cozy atmosphere, while JJ, Toby, and I were more interested in the
liquid gold on tap. Pints were poured, laughs were shared, and before we knew it, we were chatting it
up with fellow travelers from England and Ireland – because nothing brings people together like good
vibes and a cold brew.
So, if you're looking for a city that's equal parts whimsical and wild, Brussels is the place
to be. From unexpected adventures to cozy pubs and everything in between, this city knows how to show
you a good time. Trust me, you won't want to miss out on the fun!
Musée de l'Illusion
Ah, the Musée de l'Illusion – where reality takes a backseat and your mind goes on a
rollercoaster ride! Imagine stepping into a world where nothing is as it seems, where
optical illusions and mind-bending tricks are the name of the game.
From the moment we walked through the doors, we were greeted by a whirlwind of wacky
wonders. Mirrors that distorted our reflections, rooms that seemed to defy gravity,
and paintings that played tricks on our eyes – it was like stepping into a real-life
Alice in Wonderland adventure.
But the real fun began when we stumbled upon the interactive exhibits. Picture this:
JJ trying to wrap his head around a never-ending staircase, Toby getting lost in a room
of mirrors, and Grace and I attempting to navigate a hallway that seemed to shrink and
expand with every step. We laughed, we screamed (okay, maybe just me), and we embraced
our inner child as we explored every nook and cranny of this whimsical wonderland.
And let's not forget the pièce de résistance: the vortex tunnel. Picture a swirling,
spinning tunnel that messes with your senses and leaves you feeling like you've stepped
into another dimension. We must have gone through it a dozen times, each time giggling like a
bunch of school kids on a field trip.
By the time we left the Musée de l'Illusion, our heads were spinning (quite literally)
and our hearts were full of laughter. It was a reminder that sometimes, the best adventures
are the ones that mess with your mind and leave you feeling like a kid again. If you ever find
yourself in Brussels, do yourself a favor and check out this gem of a museum – trust me, you won't
regret it!
Where to find this
o'reilly's Irish Pub Brussels
O'Reilly's Irish Pub in Brussels was like stumbling upon a hidden gem in the heart of the city. Tucked away
from the bustling streets, this cozy spot exuded warmth and charm from the moment we stepped inside.
Finding a snug corner under the stairs, we settled in for what would become an unforgettable evening. The
atmosphere was buzzing with energy, a lively mix of chatter and laughter filling the air. Grace,
couldn't get enough of the cozy ambiance, while JJ, Toby, and I were already eyeing up the impressive selection
of beers on tap.
As we raised our glasses in a toast to friendship and adventure, it felt like we were transported to a pub straight
out of Dublin. The walls adorned with Irish memorabilia, the sound of traditional music filling the air – it was
the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
As the night wore on and the pints kept flowing, O'Reilly's became more than just a pub – it was a sanctuary, a
haven where memories were made and friendships were forged. And as we bid farewell to Brussels, it was the moments
spent in places like O'Reilly's that we would cherish the most, a reminder that no matter where you are in the world,
there's always a bit of Irish hospitality waiting to welcome you with open arms. Cheers to that!
