Christmas in Brussels: A Festive Journey Through the Heart of Belgium.

Buckle up, because our Brussels trip was one for the books. A five hour drive, a quick reset at the hotel, then straight out into the city to chase Christmas vibes. Markets were quiet post-Covid, but we made our own fun by scootering around, getting our minds bent at the Museum of Illusions, and ending the night with pints and laughs in a proper Irish pub.

First night in Brussels

Christmas in Brussels with friends in the city at night

Picture this: four of us rolling into Brussels after a long drive, dropping bags, then heading out ready to be dazzled. The city still had that festive glow, even if some of the bigger Christmas market energy felt toned down. No stress, we grabbed scooters and just explored, letting the night pull us from one street to the next.

Musée de l'Illusion

The Museum of Illusions was the perfect start. It is pure chaos in the best way. Mirrors, distorted rooms, mind tricks, and that feeling you are walking through a real-life cartoon. We were laughing the whole time, trying to figure out what was real and what was messing with us. If you are in Brussels and want something fun that is not just walking around sightseeing, this is a solid shout. Official site: https://museumofillusions.be/

O'Reilly's Irish Pub

After the illusions, we ended up at O'Reilly's. Proper Irish pub energy right in the city. We grabbed a spot under the stairs and settled in. The place was buzzing, the pints were flowing, and we ended up chatting to other travelers which always makes a night feel ten times better. It was one of those simple, unexpected highlights that sticks in your head after the trip. Website: https://www.oreillys.com/brussels

Top spots in this area

A couple of places that made this Brussels trip for us, simple, fun, and easy to recommend.

Musée de l'Illusion

Best for: laughs and photos

Hands-on exhibits, weird rooms, and loads of moments where you stop and go, how is that even possible. Great for groups.

Ryan's Favourite

Best for: a proper pint

Warm, lively, and the kind of place you can easily lose a few hours. We ended up meeting other travelers, which made the night.

Map & getting around

Brussels is perfect for walking, but scooters make it ridiculously easy to hop between spots. Drop your Google Maps embed link in here to pin the key places from this post.
