The Dome Edinburgh: Where Culinary Excellence Meets Architectural Grandeur
Tucked away in Edinburgh’s New Town, The Dome is one of those places that feels like a proper “special occasion”
spot, even if you’re just popping in for a meal and a couple of cocktails. The building, the lighting, and the
atmosphere make it an easy win if you want something classic and memorable while you’re in the city.
First impressions
From the moment you walk in, The Dome feels grand. It’s set inside a striking Georgian building (it used to be
the headquarters of the Commercial Bank of Scotland), and the whole place has that polished, old-school
elegance that makes you slow down and actually take it all in.
The interior and the vibe
The interior is the main event: tall columns, detailed cornices, and chandeliers that give everything a warm,
golden glow. Whether you’re sat in the busier restaurant areas or one of the calmer corners, it still feels
classy without being stuffy.
Food, drinks, and what to expect
The menu is a mix of classic Scottish options and familiar favourites. On our visit, Talli and I went for a
roast dinner and had a couple of cocktails in between. The service was seriously quick, and the food was
great quality. It is not the cheapest place in town, but for the setting, the experience, and how smooth the
service was, it felt worth it. We were too full for pudding, but that’s probably the best sign.
Quick tips if you go
If you can, book ahead during busy times (weekends especially). It’s a great stop for a celebratory meal,
date night, or a “treat ourselves” lunch while exploring Edinburgh’s New Town. And if you’re planning a full
day in the city, The Dome pairs nicely with a wander around Princes Street and the gardens afterwards.
